Anemia is a condition where you have less than the normal number of red blood cells in blood or when the red blood cells in blood don’t have enough hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein that gives the red color to blood. Its main job is to carry oxygen from lungs to all parts of body. For anemic people, blood does not carry enough oxygen to all the parts of body. Without oxygen, organs and tissues cannot work as well as they should. The test panel checks iron deficiency, B12 deficiency, and the bone marrow’s ability to produce red blood cells. An 8 to 12 hour fast is required for this blood test. However, drink plenty of water and take medications as prescribed.
