X-Ray

Description

An X-ray scan uses electromagnetic radiation to create detailed images of the inside of the body. During the procedure, the patient is positioned between an X-ray machine and a detector. The machine emits X-rays that pass through the body, with different tissues absorbing varying amounts. The detector captures these X-rays, forming an image that helps diagnose conditions.

An X-ray is a form of electromagnetic radiation, similar to visible light but with much higher energy. It is used in medical imaging to view the inside of the body, such as bones and organs, without making an incision.

During an X-ray examination, a small amount of radiation is passed through the body. Different tissues absorb the radiation at different rates. Dense materials like bones absorb more X-rays and appear white on the X-ray image, while softer tissues absorb fewer X-rays and appear darker.

X-rays use radiation, which can pose risks, especially with frequent exposure. However, the amount of radiation used in a single X-ray is very low, and the procedure is generally considered safe. For pregnant women or young children, precautions are taken to minimize exposure.

The actual X-ray procedure is usually very quick, often taking just a few minutes. The time can vary depending on the type of X-ray and the area being examined.

X-rays are generally avoided during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. If an X-ray is required, special precautions are taken to protect the fetus from radiation exposure.
